Race Information

What:

The Third Annual Laramie Blizzard Blast Costume Run is a fun running and walking event organized by the Laramie Blizzard Soccer Association to support youth soccer in the Laramie Area. The events will include a 5K run (3.1 miles), a 5K walk and a 10K run (6.2 miles) with option to participate in the zombie festivities and YES be chased by zombies. Costumes are part of the festivities and are strongly encouraged by runners, walkers, zombies, spectators and volunteers.

Who:

Everyone is welcome to participate -runners and walkers, soccer youth, coaches, parents, students, and community members. Participants receive a race shirt and post-race party. There will also be awards and a door prizes and a Silent Auction. Last year’s event was a huge success with almost 150 runners and walkers. Our inaugural event in 2012 had 190 participants. Please help us make this year’s Event even bigger!

Proceeds:

Half of the funds raised by this event will support Blizzard Soccer. The other half will be donated to this year’s selected Charity Partners Black Dog Animal Rescue (BDAR) and Laramie Animal Welfare Society (LAWS). The Laramie Blizzard Soccer Club is a non-profit, club sports organization formed to promote and organize competitive youth soccer in Laramie, Wyoming, so that individual players have the opportunity to maximize their potential by developing both an appreciation of the game and their own individual skills to the best of their ability. The Laramie Blizzard Soccer Club is a non-profit, club sports organization formed to promote and organize competitive youth soccer in Laramie, Wyoming, so that individual players have the opportunity to maximize their potential by developing both an appreciation of the game and their own individual skills to the best of their ability.

When:

The race will be held on Sunday, October 26th, starting at 9:30 AM, at the Pitch, Laramie Blizzard's Indoor Soccer Facility. Race Day Registration opens at 8:00 AM. The Pitch is located at 725 Skyline Road.

Registration:

Event Course:

The 5K and 10K courses both start and end at the soccer pitch. Both courses meander through local neighborhoods, and open prairie with several undisclosed Zombie Zones. The 10K course is modified from previous year but promises to be mostly flat and fast with a portion overlapping with the 5K. Both courses are mostly on paved roads but have several sections on dirt (non-paved) roads. A map of the 5K may be downloaded here. Check back for a map of the 10K.

Packet Pick Up:

Runners and walkers may pick up their race shirts and race packets on the Friday before the race or on race day. Pre Race Packet pick up will be Friday Oct 24th from 4 PM to 6:30 PM at the Pitch, 725 Skyline Drive. Runners and walkers will also be able to register at that time. Zombies (or their parents) must attend a short meeting scheduled during packet pick up.

Silent Auction:

The Silent Auction will open Friday at 4 and close during the Post-race Party on Race Day.

Post Race Party:

A Post-race party with refreshments & music will take place at The Pitch following the race. Costumes are encouraged for all races and the post-race party.

Awards and Prizes:

There will be overall awards, age group awards for first place AND.... a special award for the Best Costume, Best Team Costume (must run together), Blizzard Team with the highest percentage of participants, Blizzard Coach with the fastest 5K and 10K time and local business with the most race participants. And yes, there will awards for participants who survive the Zombie apocalypse.

Sanctioning:

The 2012 and 2013 Blizzard Blast was sanctioned by USA Track and Field. Sanctioning is pending for the 2014 event!

Individuals with Disabilities:

The Laramie Blizzard Blast is an able-bodied event. Individuals with disabilities may request an accommodation of disability from the Race Director runningshamrock@gmail.com. All requests for accommodations must be received six weeks prior to the date of competition. It generally takes six weeks from the receipt of all relevant documentation to evaluate such requests. Requests will be forwarded to USA Track and Field.

Weather:

Weather in the Laramie area in October is variable. The average low in October is 32° F and the average high is 57° F. Race day may turn out to be a beautiful fall morning or include snowfall-- such the name THE BLIZZARD BLAST. Please check the weather and dress in layers. Race will occur snow or shine. Please don’t let the weather deter you! The Zombies still await.
